One of my favorite parts of EMC World 2015, held May 4–7 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, was the cavernous lounge filled with blue bean bag chairs for relaxing and watching EMC TV (e.g., featuring speakers, presentations, etc.). After a long day of schlepping around the Venetian and the adjacent Sands Expo and Convention Center, it was a delight to plop down into one of the seemingly hundreds of blue bean bags and kick back for some chill time. Since it had been years since I’d felt the distinctive crinkle of jumping into one of these things, the 10-year-old-kid in me was on cloud nine. From my legume-filled perch, I was regaled by all the wonders that constituted EMC World 2015.
During my N.B.B.T (Non-Bean-Bag Time), I enjoyed visiting the always-entertaining show-floor booths in the Solutions Arcade. In a running show of one-upmanship, each booth provided something to beckon visitors in an effort to strike up a conversation. One of my favorite displays featured EMC and the Lotus F1 team’s race car and big rig. You could even participate in a simulated pit-stop session (more love from the 10-year old me here).
And, of course, the EMC VSPEX BLUE “Human Foosball” set-up continued to be a crowd-pleaser since I first saw it back in February in San Francisco when Avnet Technology Solutions announced that it had been selected as a global distributor to bring the new EMC VSPEX BLUE to market.
Over at our Avnet booth, we had live demonstrations of the broadest set of converged infrastructure solutions on the show floor. Nice. Included was the aforementioned, EMC VSPEX BLUE, which allows Avnet partners to design and deploy new solutions that offer their SMB, mid-market and enterprise customers the cloud and data center benefits of hyper-converged infrastructure at the price points and sizes that align with their needs.
One of the biggest highlights for Avnet during the week was the celebration of the 15th anniversary of its partnership with EMC. A fantastic partner-appreciation event was held at the nearby Tao Nightclub, where it was great to see friends, old and new, from partners, EMC and Avnet. A nifty “15” cake was served to commemorate this long-standing relationship, in which Avnet has helped EMC bring innovative solutions to market.
Looking back, EMC World 2015 turned out to be a great chance to connect, learn and be inspired. It’s become one of my favorite shows on the circuit. We’ll be back next year – come and join us, we’ll save a bean bag for you!
