Authority recently connected with Daniela Mota, former Channel Business Manager and recently promoted Manager of International Business Development at StarTech.com, to glean her insights on the importance of connectivity.
Daniela also discussed her career path, empowering customers in their day-to-day operations, and mobility solutions that matter. Hear what she has to say!
To begin, tell us about your background. What brought you to technology?
My attraction to technology began at very young age, when the curiosity of how things worked captivated me. I was always the person to have the latest technology and referred to by friends whenever they had technology issues. I still remember the first time I walked into a university classroom with a BlackBerry in hand, peers asking me ‘what the heck is that’?
My passion for technology and ability to be creative in finding solutions for my customers motivate me daily. Mobility solutions—especially for professional like myself, who are constantly on-the-go and travelling—are critical to our success and the success of our customers.
What is your area(s) of technology and channel expertise?
Specifically, my areas of expertise are in sales, marketing and distribution in mobility solutions, software and IT components. I also specialize in business development and expanding the distribution footprint.
Let’s shift gears to the StarTech.com story. Your tagline is “hard-to-find made easy.” Tell us what that means for reseller partners.
We want to empower our customers in their day-to-day work by helping to easily create the critical connection between them and their productivity tools. To do this, we provide a wide portfolio of connectivity accessories that include everything from legacy technologies and connectors to the latest standards, like USB-C and Thunderbolt™ 3. We make the crucial connectivity products our customers need easy to identify, find, receive and use. With the help of 24-hour support, helpful resources and a diverse selection of reliable connectivity tools, StarTech.com makes IT connectivity effortless.
When it comes to connectivity, what are the key challenges you see reseller partners facing today?
Technology is in a constant state of change. With the introduction of USB-C and Thunderbolt™ 3 there was quite a bit of confusion in the industry about how this new connector and standard would impact the IT landscape. Now, a couple of years past their introduction, USB-C and Thunderbolt™ 3 are quickly becoming industry standards for connectivity.
In 2018, we saw a spike in USB-C adoption. Furthermore, our research shows that by 2021, 77 percent of handsets, tablets and PCs will feature USB-C. Often referred to as “future proof,” USB-C is incredibly versatile. Thunderbolt™ 3, on the other hand, has been dubbed the “USB-C that does it all,” and is proving to be a game-changer in how we think about connectivity and performance. It provides four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of any other cable, as well as up to 100W of system charging.
